On top of all the other good talent we have coming to get us Trashed on Saturday night we have Seattle’s own, Thrills. This guy has proven time and time again that he delivers! Be it in the studio or behind the decks at a club, his bass heavy music is sure to get any dance floor moving. Working with the likes of DZ, Defunct, and many more, Thrills is making some serious moves and is a sure thing to watch out for in 2010 and years to come. He’s also running Sub Philo Music, a bass heavy music label which has a ton of talent on his forthcoming catalog. Thrills is truly everywhere and this Saturday night he’s coming to show you what he’s all about.
Here’s the interview I did with him as well as a ton of remixes and his latest refix mix. Enjoy the sound and see ya Saturday!
Sup man, how’s 2010 been treating you so far?
Great & BUSY! Been gearing up for the debut of my label, Sub Philo Music Group and always staying busy remixing.
I just heard your remixes of Fresh Espresso’s Laser Beams, Vader Rap, Big or Small & Coffee Talk. I’m feeln’ all four tracks man, nice work… I think all four tracks have completely different feel from the next. You seem to be pretty across the board with your style of music these days. Do you have a favorite style of producing or you just having fun doing it all?
I’m really having fun doing it all I used to make hip hop and recorded a lot from 1998 – 2004. I worked with a lot of Seattle’s best artists like OCNOTES, Inkubiz, and Khingz. I’ve always loved a lot of artist’s from Seattle and wanted to eventually combine everything. I’ve also been making a lot of liquid drum and bass and I’m almost done putting the finishing touches on my debut multi genre album featuring Rik Rude, Limited Copy, Claire Hux, Tony Rocky Horror, & more.
How long you been making music and what are you using in the studio?
I’ve been djing for 14 years, in the late 90’s I played mainly house(classic) at raves like Naf Studios, Lish House, & Artificial Limb (now Oseao). I started producing a short time after that and made mainly house music. When I was 16 I met Otis (OCNOTES) and we started producing weird abstract hip hop & dance music hybrid, and called whatever we did Sub Philo. I think time is just now catching up with what we made back then. Whenever we made something together it turned out amazing and uncategorizable. I just use fruity loops, soundforge and loads of samples and vsts. Mainly its time in front of the computer and not out living life, but hopefully al the work pays off one day, although I am happy just from creating art.
Who’s your favorite guys making music right now and who in your eyes should we be looking out for in 2010?
GEEZ this ones easy!!! everyone on my label hahahaha!!! We got tracks coming from everybody DZ, Defunct!, Dev79, Udachi, Tomb Crew, Squire Of Gothos, Kanji Kinetic, Supra1, Bombaman, NoNewYork, Dean Tynan, DMNDAYS ft Whiskey Pete, Feeding the Frenzy’s Commodore69, Seattle’s OCNOTES & Rik Rude and a bunch more!(to many to list) I’m also excited about CHOCOLATES especially when they’re METAL!!!!
Seattle, born and raised or a transplant?
I was born in Wichita and grew up in Puyallup but moved up to Seattle shortly after high school.
What can we expect to hear this Saturday at Trashed?
TRASH! hahaha a mixture of bass house, electro, and dubstep, tons of promos from DZ, Kanji Kinetic, Squire’s & more… that being said it will be different from any other sets you hear in Seattle.
